How to Add Shadows or Emboss Your Text in PowerPoint 2007

Adding a shadow behind your PowerPoint text can make the text stand out and make your entire slide easier to read. For that reason, many of the PowerPoint templates use shadows. Embossed text looks like it has been chiseled in stone. PowerPoint achieves the embossed effect by adding a light shadow above the text rather than the dark shadow that appears below the text when you create shadowed text. You can’t create text that is both shadowed and embossed; you can use only one effect or the other.

Add Shadows to PowerPoint Text

To apply a shadow to text, follow these steps:

  1. Selecting the text to change.

  2. Clicking the Text Shadow button, found in the Font section of the Home tab.

Emboss PowerPoint Text

When you emboss text, PowerPoint changes the text color to the background color to enhance the embossed effect. As a result, the text appears to sink into the background. Embossed text is difficult to read in smaller font sizes. This effect is best reserved for large titles. Also, embossed text is nearly invisible with some color schemes. You may have to fiddle with the color scheme or switch templates in order to make the embossed text visible. To apply the embossed effect to text, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Dialog Launcher button at the bottom-right corner of the Font group in the Home tab and open the Font dialog box.

  2. Select the Emboss option and click OK.

I have to agree with Camary79. Its nowhere to befound and I clearly remember using it in the 2003 version.
