How to Add a Web Image to Your WordPress.com Blog

1 of 8 in Series: The Essentials of Adding to Your WordPress Blog

If you find an image on the Internet that you want to add to your WordPress.com post, you can do so with just a few steps. Web images offer you an easy way to put an image in a blog post because, by using WordPress.com's Add Media toolbar, you need only the picture's URL:

1

Log in to your WordPress.com account.

Your main WordPress.com page appears.

2

Click the Add an Image button, the first button on the Add Media toolbar.

The Add an Image window opens.

3

Click the From URL tab.

The From URL window appears.

4

Type the URL (Internet address) of the image in the Image URL text box.

Type the full URL, including the http and www portion of the address. You can find the URL of any image on the Web by right-clicking it and selecting Properties.

5

Type a title for the image in the Image Title box.

The title helps you easily identify the image later when you use the Media Library.

6

(Optional) Type a description of the image in the Image Caption box.

The description of the image provides image ALT tags, which help search engines find and list your site in their directories.

7

Select your alignment option radio button.

Select the None, Left, Center, or Right radio button.

8

Specify whether you want to link the image.

If you select None, you don’t want to link the image to anything. If you select Link to Image, you can type any URL you want in the Link URL text box to link an image to another Web site or page.

9

Click the Insert into Post button.

The image appears in your post text window.
