How Structure Blocks Work in Squarespace

In Squarespace, you can pull information using structure blocks only from pages that let you add items (blog pages, events pages, gallery pages, and products pages).

These types of pages allow you to organize items such as blog posts, gallery images, and products into similar groupings by using tags and categories. Page items contain settings that determine when they are published to your site and who’s credited with creating them (called authors). The content stored on these pages is searchable and can be used in other areas.

You use structure blocks to pull content stored in blog posts, events, gallery images, gallery videos, and products pages to display elsewhere on your site. Some blocks display previews of content with links to view the rest of the content on another page. Other blocks display a list of information.

You can add the following types of structure blocks to your site:

  • Search: A search box

  • Collection link: The page thumbnail and page description of any page in your site

  • Calendar: A calendar that indicates which days of the month a particular page’s items have been published

  • Summary: Page item updates

  • Tag cloud: Tags applied to page items in different display styles

  • Author index: Authors who have published items on a page

  • Tag index: The tags used across all items on a page

  • Category index: The categories used to group similar items

  • Month index: The months when page items were published

All structure blocks, except the search block, pull information from a single page of your site. The steps are the same for any structure block:

  1. Add a structure block to a page.

  2. Select the page from which the structure block will pull information.

In the block’s configuration dialog box, select a page from the list. The pages are listed and organized by page type:

    • Blog

    • Gallery

    • Events

    • Products

    • Pages
