How Seniors Can Update the iPhone 4S Operating System to iOS 5

To make sure you have the latest and greatest features in iPhone 4S, update to the latest iOS (iOS 5) now and periodically check for new version releases. If you have set up an iCloud account on your iPhone, updates can be set up to happen automatically, or you can use a physical connection to a computer to update the iOS.

  1. To use the latter method, plug the 30-pin end of the Dock Connector to USB Cable into your iPhone and plug the USB end into your computer; or if you’ve set up wireless syncing be within range of a Wi-Fi network.

  2. When iTunes opens, click your iPhone (in the Devices section of the Source List on the left side of the computer screen) and then click the Summary tab if it isn’t already displayed.

  3. Read the note next to the Check for Update button to see whether your iOS is up to date. If it isn’t, click the Check for Update button. iTunes checks to find the latest iOS version and walks you through the updating procedure.
