This gluten-free fruit sauce can be served over pancakes or waffles or as a dipping sauce with toast fingers. You can vary this fruit sauce in many ways. Instead of applesauce, purée some drained canned pears to equal 1 cup. You can add chopped toasted nuts to the sauce or add some dried fruits like dried cherries or cranberries.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 3–4 minutes

Yield: 6 servings

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 cup applesauce

1 large banana, peeled and mashed

1 tablespoon maple syrup

  2. Stir in the applesauce, banana, and maple syrup.

    Stir well until combined.

  3. Warm over low heat until the mixture is hot, about 3 or 4 minutes.

Let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
