For Seniors: View Documents in the Windows Print Queue

As you send documents to your Windows printer, they are placed in a queue as they wait to be printed, one by one. View documents in the print queue anytime you like, without disturbing the printing process. You can even cancel a print job if you like.

1

Choose Start→View Devices and Printers.

The Devices and Printers window appears, displaying a list of installed printers and fax machines.

2

Click the icon for a printer.

If a printer has documents in its print queue, the number of documents is listed at the bottom of the window.

3

To see what's in the print queue, click the See What’s Printing button at the top of the window.

A window opens and displays the status of all documents in the queue.

4

In the window that appears, click a document and choose Document→Cancel to stop the printing, if you want.

You can choose other options from the Document menu as well. Restart restarts the printing process; Pause pauses the printing while Resume resumes it after pausing. Click the Close button to return to the Devices and Printers window.

5

Right-click any printer and choose Properties.

Details about the printer appear, such as which port it’s plugged into or whether it can print color copies. Click the Close button to close the Devices and Printers window.
