For Seniors: Use Skype to Make Calls Online
Skype lets you make phone calls using your Internet connection and a technology called VoiP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Calls to other users of Skype are absolutely free, even if the other person is located around the world from you. If you call landlines or mobile phones, you still get low rates for your calls using credits that you purchase.
You can use the video feature of Skype along with a webcam to make video calls to others. This is an awesome way to keep in touch with the grandkids or other friends in distant places. If you’re not at your computer when a call comes in, you can set up a voicemail feature to take messages. To use Skype to make Internet calls, start by installing the software.
Go to Skype website and click Get Skype.
The Get Skype menu appears.
Click the appropriate Device and operating system.
For example, you might choose Windows under the Computer heading to download Skype to a Windows-based laptop.
Click the Download Skype button and follow the instructions to run the Skype installation program.
Skype is downloaded and installed on your computer or device.
Start the Skype program.
Assuming you installed Skype on a Windows computer, you'll find the Program on the Start menu under All Programs. The Skype window appears.
Click Add a Contact to add people to your Contact list.
A contact form appears.
Fill in the form with the person’s e-mail, phone number, full name, and Skype name (the name they used when registering their Skype account) and then click the Add button.
Now you can make phone calls by simply clicking a contact name in the Skype window and then clicking the Call Phone button.
