For Seniors: Sync Your Laptop with a Music Device

Sync (transfer music files) between a portable music device and your laptop so you can play your music everywhere. iPods and other MP3 players and other music devices that can be easily synced to your laptop so that the music is shared between them.

Connect the portable music device to your laptop, then choose Start→All ProgramsWindows Media Player.

Windows Media Player starts.

Click the Sync tab.

The Device Setup dialog box appears.

To add items to be synced to a device, drag items to the Sync pane. If you are connected (or the next time you do connect), the items are copied onto the device automatically.

Name the device and click Finish.

The device is now synced with Windows Media Player and will be automatically updated whenever you connect it to your laptop. You should sync the device as often as needed, in order to share its music with your laptop, and vice-versa.

If you want to be sure that the sync is progressing, click the Sync Options button (it’s on the far-right side at the top of the Sync tab and looks like a little box with a check mark in it) and choose View Sync Status.
