For Seniors: Sign Up for a Social Network

Social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Eons are a great way for you to connect with others online. The signup process for most social networks is similar, so to guide you through the process, here are steps you would follow to sign up for Eons, a senior social networking site.

1

Visit the Eons Home page.

The Eons Home page appears in your web browser.

2

Click the Sign Up link near the top of the page.

A signup form appears.

3

Enter your name, e-mail address, a password, your birthdate, gender, and zip code and then click Sign Up.

The second page in the signup process appears.

Eons requires your birthdate to verify that you are a senior, but you can choose to hide this information from others later if you don’t want it displayed.

4

Enter a screen name.

When creating a screen name, consider the message it may send. Names like lookin’forlove or lonelyinHouston may send a message that you're lonely and emotionally vulnerable. You don't need to use a screen name if you don't want to; in that case, the name you entered in your profile is used (your real name).

5

Click Check Availability to see if the alias you entered is not already in use as a screen name.

If the screen name you request is already taken, choose another screen name and try again.

6

Click Sign Up.

At this point, you're instructed to check your e-mail account for a message. When you receive the message, click the link in it to confirm your e-mail address. When you do, a page appears saying that your e-mail address has been confirmed and instructing you what to do next. Click the Explore the Eons Homepage button on this page, and your Eons page is displayed.

Click the Account Settings link at the top of your page and review the privacy setting there to control who can access information you post on your page. In addition, you'll want to review your profile and remove any information you do not wish to share, and add information you'd like people to know such as your hobbies and interests.
