For Seniors: Send Electronic Greeting Cards

If you can't send a card to a loved one in time for their birthday or anniversary, send an electronic greeting (e-card) instead. E-cards often contain animations and music. Perhaps less personal than sending a paper card, e-cards are fun, almost instantaneous, and very earth-friendly.

You'll find e-cards at various websites, including Hallmark, American Greetings, Blue Mountain, and 123 Greetings. Some of these sites are free; some offer a few free cards but charge you a yearly fee to access their full range of cards.

1

Search the site to find a card.

Cards are often organized by categories that you can browse, or you can use the Search feature to locate a card. Click the card to begin the process of sending it.

When you use some e-card sites that are entirely free, you run a greater risk of downloading viruses or having advertising placed in your cards. The yearly subscriptions to legitimate sites are very low, allowing you to send out as many greetings as you like for the entire year, so you might consider spending the money to use one.

2

Personalize the card with a greeting.

Options for each e-card vary, but typically you can personalize a card with a name and a special message from you. Sometimes you can choose which photo, video, or song you want to accompany a card.

3

Enter the recipient’s e-mail address.

Enter other information as required, such as your e-mail address.

Some e-cards can be posted to Facebook, rather than being sent as an e-mail. In such cases, a link to the e-card is posted either to the recipient's wall, or to yours, depending on which option you choose.

4

Preview the card and send the card on its way.

The recipient gets an e-mail notification with a link to click to view the card online.
