For Seniors: Rip Music from a CD or DVD
Windows Media Player can rip (copy) music tracks from a CD or DVD onto your laptop. Ripped music is stored on your laptop, where you can play it using Windows Media Player.
If you place a CD or DVD in your disc drive, Windows Media Player will ask if you want to rip the music from the disc to your laptop. You can control how ripping works by changing the options in Windows Media Player.
Open Windows Media Player, click the Organize button, and choose Options.
The Options dialog box appears.
Click the Rip Music tab to display it.
The Rip Music options are displayed.
Set storage location, audio format, and automation.
Click the Change button to change the location where ripped music is stored; the default location is your Music folder. Select the audio format to use from the Format drop-down list.
To have Windows Media Player rip music from CD/DVDs automatically without prompting, click the Rip CD Automatically check box. If you want the CD/DVD to eject automatically after ripping is complete, select the Eject CD after Ripping check box.
Set copyright protection, audio quality, and filename default.
Many audio files are copyright-protected. To maintain the copyright protection for music you've purchased, choose the Copy Protect Music checkbox. Windows will then prompt you to download media rights or purchase another copy of the music if you copy the ripped music from your laptop to another location.
Use the Audio Quality slider to adjust the quality of the ripped music. The Smallest Size will save space on your laptop by compressing the file, but this causes a loss of audio quality. The Best Quality will provide optimum sound, but these files can be rather large.
Set options for storing ripped music files.
Click the File Name button to choose the information to include in the filenames for the ripped music. In the File Name Options dialog box that appears, click the check boxes for the items you want to include in your music’s filenames; click OK when you're done.
When you finish selecting options, click the OK button
The options are saved the Options dialog box is closed.
