For Seniors: Reply or Forward a Hotmail Message

Windows Live Hotmail appears in your Inbox regularly, where you can reply or forward it. If you receive an e-mail and want to send a message back, use the Reply feature. If you want to share an e-mail with someone else, forward it.

1

Display the Windows Live home page, sign into your account, and click the Hotmail link to go to the Hotmail portion of Windows Live.

Enter your new Windows Live ID and password, and then click the Sign In button. The Windows Live Home page appears. Click the Hotmail link at the top of the page, and your Inbox appears.

2

Open the message you want to reply to, and then click Reply or Reply All.

If you click Reply, your reply is sent to only the author. If you click Reply All, then your reply is sent to the author as well as everyone who received the original message.

After you click Reply or Reply All, an e-mail message is created. The text of the original message is copied into this new message, and its Subject begins with RE: so everyone can tell that it's a reply to an original message.

Attachments of the original message are not copied into the new message.

3

If you want to forward the message instead, click the Forward button.

A new message is created. The text of the original message is copied into this new message, and its Subject begins with FW: so everyone can tell that a forwarded message.

Attachments of the original message are copied into the forwarded message.

4

Type your message above the copied text and click Send.

A reply message is automatically addressed, although you can add additional recipients if you like. For a forwarded message, add the recipient(s) you want to forward the message to. Type your message above the copied text and click Send to send the message on its way.
