For Seniors: Read a Windows Live Hotmail Message

Windows Live Hotmail appears in your Inbox regularly, where you can view and reply to it. Hotmail e-mail is similar to other online e-mail services, in that you can access it from any Internet computer. Hotmail messages reside online-and not on your computer.

1

Display the Windows Live home page, sign into your account, and click the Hotmail link to go to the Hotmail portion of Windows Live.

Enter your new Windows Live ID and password, and then click the Sign In button. The Windows Live Home page appears. Click the Hotmail link at the top of the page, and your Inbox appears.

2

Click an e-mail message in your Inbox or double-click it to open it in a larger window.

Unread messages sport an icon of an unopened envelope to the left of the message subject. Use the scroll bars in the message window to scroll down through the message and read it.

3

To open an attachment, click it.

If the message has an attachment, it shows a paper clip symbol next to the message in your Inbox; attachments are listed in the open message. Once you click the attachment, the File Download dialog box appears.

4

Click the Open button to open the attachment with the suggested program.

The attachment opens in whatever program is associated with it (such as the Windows Media Center for a video file) or the program it was created in (such as Microsoft Word).

If you’d rather save an attachment to a storage disk or your hard drive, click the Save button, choose the location to save the file to, and then click Save.
