For Seniors: Move a Windows File or Folder
You can move a file or group of files in a Windows folder from one location to another. You might want to move files or folders after reorganizing your work, or to make the files or folders easier to locate when you need it.
Right-click the Start menu button and choose Open Windows Explorer.
The Windows Explorer window (also called Computer) opens.
Double-click a folder or series of folders to locate the folder or file that you want to move.
As you double-click each folder, the folder's contents is displayed. Eventually, you will dig far enough to find the file or folder you want to move.
Click and drag the file or folder to another folder in the Navigation pane on the left side of the window.
The file or folder is moved to the new location.
If you want to create a copy of a file or folder in another location on your laptop, right-click the item and choose Copy. Navigate to the location where you want to place the copy, right-click, and choose Paste or press Ctrl+V.
You can also copy a file by right-clicking it, choosing Send To, and selecting a storage device from the shortcut menu. The options on this menu vary, depending on the storage devices and transfer options on your computer.
