For Seniors: Minimize, Maximize, Restore, and Resize Windows
Under Windows 7, application windows can be minimized, maximized, restored, and resized as needed. Maximize a program window to fill the whole screen, restore it to its original size, or minimize it to an icon on the taskbar. You can also resize windows to fit your needs precisely.
With an application open and maximized, click the Restore Down button.
The Restore Down icon is located in the top-right corner of the program window, and it shows two overlapping windows. When you click it, the window reduces to its size prior to being maximized.
To enlarge a window to fill the screen, click the Maximize button.
The Maximize button is in the same location as the Restore Down button; this button changes its name to one or the other, depending on whether a window is reduced in size or maximized. A ScreenTip identifies the button when you rest your mouse pointer on it. When you click the Maximize button, the window fills the screen.
To minimize the window to an icon on the taskbar, click the Minimize button.
The Minimize button is located to the left of the Restore Down/Maximize button and looks like a small bar. When you click the Minimize button, the window appears on the taskbar as an icon. To restore the window again, just click its taskbar icon.
With a window maximized, you can’t move the window. If you reduce a window in size, you can then click and hold its title bar to drag the window around the desktop, which is one way to view more than one window on your screen at the same time. You can also click and drag the corners of a reduced window to change it to any size you want.
