For Seniors: Make Text on Your Laptop Larger
With today's high-resolution monitors, images are crisp but text is small. If you have difficulty reading text and other items on your monitor, you can make them larger. If you use an older monitor, or set your monitor to a low resolution, you might find that some items are just too big! In such a case, you can make the onscreen text and other items smaller.
Changing the size of text in this way not only affects text but also other onscreen items such as buttons and icons. In addition, this kind of change affects all items, and not just the items and text in one or two programs.
However, if you want to make the text larger in a single program such as your web browser, for example, look to see if there is a way to temporarily zoom in on what's being displayed. Zooming provides you with more control over the size of onscreen items because you can always zoom back out to display text and other items normally.
Choose Start→Control Panel→Appearance and Personalization.
The Appearance and Personalization window appears.
In the Display section, click Make Text and Other Items Larger or Smaller.
The Display window appears.
Click the radio button for the size of text you prefer.
Smaller is the default, but you can expand text size to 125 percent with the Medium setting and 150 percent with the Larger setting.
Click Apply.
You're prompted to log out. Click Log Off Now if you've closed all windows and are ready to restart the computer. After you log back in, the text and other items onscreen are resized to fit your selection, such as the screen shown here, which uses the Larger setting.
