For Seniors: Find Laptop Files with Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer is a great way to look for files on your laptop. Using Windows Explorer, you can locate a file or folder by navigating through an outline of folders and subfolders on your laptop.
Right-click the Start menu button and choose Open Windows Explorer, or click the Windows Explorer button on the taskbar.
The Windows Explorer icon is located in the Frequently Used Programs area of the taskbar. It looks like a set of folders. The Windows Explorer window opens, and displays a list of libraries (special folders) on your laptop.
Double-click a folder in the main window or the list along the left side.
The folder’s contents are displayed. If necessary, open a series of folders in this manner until you locate the file you want.
There are some shortcuts to commonly used folders on the right side of the Start menu, including Documents, Pictures, Music, and Games. Click one of these, and Windows Explorer opens to display that particular folder.
When you find the file you want, double-click it.
The file opens. If the file is associated with a program, that program opens and displays the contents of the file.
To see different perspectives and information about files in Windows Explorer, click the arrow on the Views button (it looks like series of columns) and choose Extra Large Icons, Large Icons, Medium Icons, or Small Icons to display files as icons.
Choose Details to show details about each file such as date modified and size; Tiles to show the file/folder name, type, and size; and Content to display the date modified and file size only. If you are working with a folder containing graphics files, the graphics automatically display as thumbnails (tiny versions of the pictures) unless you choose Details.
