For Seniors: Bookmarks and Highlights in e-Books on Your iPhone 4S

Bookmarks and highlights in your e-books on your iPhone 4S are like favorite sites you save in your web browser: They enable you to revisit a favorite passage or refresh your memory about a character or plot point.

1

To bookmark a page, with that page displayed just tap the Bookmark button in the top-right corner.

To highlight a word or phrase, press a word until the toolbar appears.

2

Tap the Highlight button.

A colored highlight is placed on the word.

3

To change the color of the highlight, add a note, or remove the highlight, tap the highlighted word.

Another toolbar appears.

4

Tap one of these three buttons: Colors, Note, or Remove Highlight.

Colors displays a menu of colors you can tap to change the highlight color.

Note lets you add a note to the item.

Remove Highlight removes the highlight.

Tap outside the highlighted text to close the toolbar.

5

To go to a list of bookmarks and highlights, tap the Table of Contents button on a book page. In the Table of Contents, tap the Bookmarks tab.

All bookmarks are displayed.

6

Tap a bookmark or highlight in this list to go there.

iPhone automatically bookmarks where you left off reading in a book so you don’t have to mark your place manually. If you use any other device registered to your account you can also pick up where you left off reading.

You can also highlight illustrations in a book. Display the page and press the image until the Highlight button appears above it. Tap the button, and the illustration is highlighted in yellow. As with highlighted text, you can tap a bookmarked illustration to change the highlight color, add a note, or remove its highlight.
