For Seniors: Adjust Internet Explorer's Privacy Settings
In order to keep yourself as safe as possible while browsing the Internet, adjust Internet Explorer's Privacy settings. Internet Explorer can help keep your browsing habits and identity safer.
With IE open, choose Tools→Internet Options and click the Privacy tab.
The Internet Options dialog box appears.
Click the slider and drag it up or down to select the privacy level you want.
One way IE maintains your privacy is by controlling cookies. Cookies allow websites to identify you, sometimes for innocent reasons (such as accessing your preferences for a site), while other times, cookies might be used to collect information you don’t want to saved, such as your name and address, or passwords. The default setting, Medium, is probably a good bet for most people.
Click the Sites button to specify sites to always or never allow the use of cookies.
In the resulting Per Site Privacy Actions dialog box, enter a site in the Address of Website field and click either Block or Allow. Click OK to save your changes and return to the Internet Options. When you're done setting options, click OK again.
There’s a lot of news today about sites and devices that pinpoint your physical location. If you don’t want to allow the location of your laptop to be tracked, click the Never Allow Websites to Request Your Physical Location check box.
You can also use pop-up blocker settings on the Privacy tab to specify which pop-up windows to allow or block. Just click the Settings button, enter a website name, and then click Add to allow pop-ups.
