For Seniors: Add the Feed Headlines Gadget to the Windows Desktop
With the Feed Headlines gadget on your Windows desktop, you can keep up on the latest news. The Feed Headlines gadget delivers headlines from RSS feeds to your desktop. An RSS feed contains links to frequently updated content such as news, videos, photos, and more.
A gadget, by the way, is a small applet that fills a specific function, such as telling you what time it is. You can arrange multiple gadgets on the desktop by repeating these steps.
Right-click the desktop and choose Gadgets.
The Gadget Gallery appears.
Click the Feed Headlines gadget and drag it to the desktop.
The Feed Headlines gadget appears on the desktop where you dropped it, displaying the headlines from your current news feed(s).
The Feed Headlines gadget gets its list of RSS feeds from Internet Explorer. You can display one RSS feed from this list, or all of them, in the Feed Headlines gadget.
Click a headline to display its details
A short description of the news story appears. To display the complete story in your web browser, click the Read Online link. Depending on the source, other links may also be provided to allow you to e-mail the story or share it through various social networking sites such as Digg and Facebook.
Use the Next and Previous arrows that appear at the bottom of the Feed Headlines gadget to scroll through available feeds.
To select a specific RSS feed, place your mouse over the Feed Headlines gadget and click the Options button.
When you move your mouse over the gadget, a panel flies out; click the Options button on this panel. (It sports a little wrench symbol.) The Feed Headlines dialog box appears.
Select a specific feed or All Feeds from the Display This Feed list.
You can limit the number of headlines that display in the Feed Headlines list by making a selection from the Number Of Recent Headlines To Show list.
Click OK.
The Feed Headlines settings are saved.
