For Seniors: Add the Calendar Gadget to the Windows Desktop

The Calendar gadget on your Windows desktop displays a customizable calendar you can use to see the current day or month. Browse the Calendar gadget to display other months as needed.

A gadget, by the way, is a small applet that fills a specific function, such as displaying a calendar. You can arrange multiple gadgets on the desktop by repeating these steps.

1

Right-click the desktop and choose Gadgets.

The Gadget Gallery appears.

2

Click the Calendar gadget and drag it to the desktop.

The Calendar gadget appears on the desktop where you dropped it, displaying the current day.

3

To display both the date and the month, place your mouse over the Calendar and click the Larger Size tool.

When you move your mouse over the gadget, a panel flies out; click the Larger Size tool on this panel. The monthly and daily sections both appear.

To switch back to the smaller size, which shows only the daily display, click the Smaller Size tool. If you want to use this smaller size but display the monthly calendar, just double-click the small display and it toggles between month and day.

4

With the monthly calendar displayed, click the Next or Previous arrows to move to another month.

If the Calendar is displayed in large size, double-click a date to display it in the lower part of the calendar; click the red tab in the lower-left corner of the day section to display today’s date once again.

With the monthly display shown in the smaller size, you can jump to the daily display for a specific date by double-clicking that date in the monthly view.

To remove a gadget from your desktop, just place your pointer over it and then click the Close button (marked with an X) that appears next to it. The gadget closes. Follow the steps above to display it on the desktop again at any time.
