Find the Slope and Construct a Vector with GeoMaster

GeoMaster in the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator offers several features from the MEAS menu, including the Slope tool and the Vector Sum tool. The Slope tool in the MEAS menu can be used to find the slope of a line, segment, ray, vector, or side of a polygon. To find the slope, follow these steps:

  1. Press [GRAPH][ZOOM][5] to select the Slope tool from the MEAS menu.

  2. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the line, segment, ray, vector, or side of a polygon and press [ENTER].

The slope appears at the location of the cursor.

  3. Use the arrow keys to move the slope to a better location and press [ENTER] to anchor that location. Press [ENTER] again or move the cursor.

The Slope tool remains active until you deactivate it. So if you want to find the slope of another line or segment, repeat Steps 2 and 3. When you are finished using the tool, deactivate it by pressing [CLEAR] or by selecting another menu item.

To construct the sum of two vectors, follow these steps:

  1. Press [GRAPH][ZOOM][6] to select the Vector Sum tool from the MEAS menu.

  2. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the first vector in the sum and press [ENTER].

The selected vector appears as a dashed vector.

  3. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the second vector in the sum and press [ENTER].

The vector sum is constructed at the location of the cursor.

  4. Use the arrow keys to move the vector sum to a better location and press [ENTER] to anchor that location. Press [ENTER] again or move the cursor.

The Vector Sum tool remains active until you deactivate it. So if you want to construct the sum of more vectors, repeat Steps 2 through 4. When you are finished using the tool, deactivate it by pressing [CLEAR] or by selecting another menu item.
