Find Length and Distance with GeoMaster

The Distance/Length tool in the MEAS menu in GeoMaster on the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator is used to find the distance between two points, the length of a segment or vector, the circumference of a circle, or the perimeter of a polygon. To use this tool, follow these steps:

  1. Press [GRAPH][ZOOM][ENTER] to select the Distance/Length tool from the MEAS menu.

The name of the tool appears in the upper-right corner of the screen.

  2. Select the object you want to measure.

If you are measuring the distance between two points, use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the first point and press [ENTER] to select it. Then move the cursor to the second and press [ENTER]. The distance between the points appears on the screen.

If you are measuring the length of a segment or vector, the circumference of a circle, or the perimeter of a polygon, use the arrow keys to move the cursor to that object and press [ENTER] to select the object. The object is displayed using dashed lines and the requested measure appears on the screen.

If you don’t like GeoMaster’s placement of the length or distance, before performing the next step, you can use the arrow keys to relocate it. In the third image shown, the measurement of the perimeter of the polygon is relocated. The measurements of the other two objects in this picture remain where GeoMaster placed them.

  3. Press [ENTER] to anchor the placement of the measurement.

  4. To measure another object, repeat Steps 2 and 3.

  5. When you are finished taking measurements, press [ENTER] again or move the cursor away from the last object. To deactivate the Distance/Length tool, press [ENTER] or select another menu item.

After pressing [ENTER], all objects are displayed using solid lines.
