Fibromyalgia is one of the terms given to the condition of chronic, widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. Emotional stress coupled with inflammation from too much sugar causes the nervous system to remain in an overactive state, keeping muscles “turned on” when they shouldn’t be.

This causes muscles to go into tight, spastic knots that reduce circulation. As a result of the decrease in blood flow, muscles don’t get the oxygen they need, and metabolic waste products start to build up. This activates nerves in the area, causing pain and constant fatigue.

Sugar damages cells through a process called glycation that causes muscle tissue and fascia to become stiffer and thicker. This makes chronic pain conditions worse because the inflexible tissue becomes extremely sensitive to touch and movement.

If you have chronic pain, always remember that your body chemistry is affected by your emotions too! Every single thought and emotion you have triggers certain chemical reactions throughout your body. If you truly believe that you’re healthy and powerful, your body chemistry moves toward that reality.

If you consistently obsess over how bad you feel or you believe that there’s always something wrong with you and that you’ll never be well, your sickness becomes more deeply rooted in your physiology. Careful what you tell yourself — your brain is listening!
