Dreamweaver CS6 Welcome Screen and Default Settings
When you launch Dreamweaver, the Welcome screen appears. The left column in the Welcome screen lists recent files and appears differently each time you launch Dreamweaver. The right column promotes new features in Dreamweaver CS6.
You’ll find the most useful and essential elements of the Welcome screen in the Create New (middle) column. (Your Welcome screen will look different than this one because the Welcome screen saves recent files in the left column.) Clicking the HTML button at the top of the column creates a new HTML file, using default settings for an HTML file.
By default, Dreamweaver creates a new file using the HTML5 doctype.
Most of the time, the defaults settings (an HTML5 document) are fine. But just for your reference, in case you elect to use another version of HTML, you can change these default settings. Here is how to see, or change, the defaults:
Choose Edit→Preferences (Windows)/Dreamweaver→Preferences (Mac).
You can also press Ctrl+U (Windows)/Command+U (Mac).
The Preferences dialog box opens.
Click the New Document category on the left.
Choose a document type from the Default document popup. If you wish to change the version of HTML you use to create new files, you can choose a version of HTML from the Default Document Type (DTD) popup.
Here’s another feature you might want to customize: The Show New Document Dialog Box on CMD+N check box is selected by default, but you can change that.
If you deselect this check box, when you press the shortcut keys to open a new document (Ctrl+N for Windows or Command+N on a Mac), that new document opens with your default settings, and you will not see the New Document dialog box.
