Drawing the Parts of an Eye
Part of the Drawing For Dummies Cheat Sheet
If you’re drawing the human eye, make sure you know all of the eye’s various parts to draw this feature of the face more accurately. Refer to this chart for the components of the eye:
Eyebrow: An arched-shape group of hairs above the eye
Upper Eyelid Crease: A crease (sometimes called a fold) in the skin above the upper eyelid, defining the top of the eyeball
Upper Eyelid: The larger, movable fold of skin above the eyeball that opens and closes to protect the upper and center sections of the eye
Inner Corner: A small, reddish, triangular-shaped space in the inside corner of the eye, close to the nose
White of the Eye (sometimes called the eyeball): The largest spherical section of the eye that is light in value (but not really white)
Lower Eyelid: A smaller, less movable fold of skin protecting the lower eyeball
Eyelashes: Fine hairs that grow from the outer edges of the upper and lower eyelids
Iris: The large, colored circular shape on the eyeball
Highlight: A bright spot that defines where light bounces off the surface of the eye
Pupil: The dark circle inside the iris that changes size under different lighting conditions
