Crop and Straighten Your Dog Photos in Adobe Lightroom

Not all your dog photos need to be cropped or straightened, but if you want to crop out that ugly trash can you didn’t realize was peeking into your frame, or if the horizon line seems a bit off-kilter, use the Crop Overlay tool in Adobe Lightroom by doing the following:

  1. With Lightroom open, click the Develop Module in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Click the Crop Overlay tool.

A frame with little adjustment handles appears around your image. Click and drag these adjustment handles to adjust your crop.

  3. After you’ve cropped your image as you’d like, you can use the Straighten tool located just below the Crop Frame tool by simply clicking and dragging the Angle slider.

A grid appears over your image to help you align your horizon or any other straight line that appears in your photo.

  4. When your image looks straight enough, just release your mouse button and leave the slider in its new position.

Finish by clicking the Done button located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (or simply hit Enter on your keyboard) to apply your crop/straighten adjustments.

To maintain the proportions of your crop, hold down the Shift key while dragging the adjustment handles.
