Creating a Notification Letter to Send to eBay Auction Winners

Taking the time to create a friendly notification letter to send to the winning bidders of your eBay auctions is just good business. Have you ever received a bulk-generated, boilerplate winner's confirmation letter? The seller hasn't bothered to fill in half the blanks, and you're almost insulted just by reading it? Receiving a note like this after you've requested that the seller combine purchases (and the letter pays no attention to your request) is especially annoying. E-mails can cross, but a personal approach goes a long way with customers.

It's not that you shouldn't automate your eBay business, but it isn't that hard to take the time to personalize even your canned e-mail responses. For example, the following letter lets the customer know that there's a real person behind the automation:

Good news! You won eBay item #120089481873 Cloud Dome Photo Stage Studio.

Thank you for winning my eBay item. Buyers tend to go unrecognized on eBay a little too often, so I want you to know that your purchase is very much appreciated. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know. While this first e-mail is being generated automatically, I do welcome one-on-one contact with you. Just send a reply to this mail and I'll answer your inquiries directly.

I am serious about my business and look forward to the opportunity to serve you. I'd also like to invite you to check out my other items available on eBay.

If you aren't selling many items at a time, you could even use a more personal approach. Here's a tried-and-true winner's notice:

Congratulations!

Yours was the winning bid on eBay item #122342911 for the Emilio Pucci book. You got a great deal! I am looking forward to a pleasant transaction and positive feedback for both of us.

If you pay through PayPal, I'll send your order right away.

Thank you for buying my item. I am delighted to be dealing with you and know you will enjoy your purchase.
