Create Scopes and Add Scope Rules
You can add scope rules to existing scopes in SharePoint 2010. If you need to reuse your scope across multiple site collections, you may want to ask your search administrator to create a reusable scope for you.
To create scopes on a site collection, follow these steps:
Browse to the Site Settings page of the top-level site of the site collection where you wish to create the scope.
Click the Search Scopes link.
The View Scopes page appears.
Click the New Scope button.
The Create Scope page appears.
Type a title and description for the scope in the Title and Description fields.
The title appears in the drop-down list next to the search box.
In the Display Groups section, place a check mark next to each display group where you wish to display the search scope.
By default, SharePoint 2010 includes two display groups — Search Dropdown and Advanced Search. These display groups correspond to SharePoint’s default search options — search and advanced search, respectively.
The scopes included in the Search Dropdown display group appear in the Scope drop-down list in the search box that appears on SharePoint sites. Choosing to add your scope to the Search Dropdown display group displays the scope in the Scope drop-down list.
Indicate whether to use the default search results page by selecting the desired option in the Target Results Page section.
The results page for People searches is an example of using a different results page.
The scope appears in the display group you selected on the View Scopes page.
Because no rules are defined for the new scope, no search results are returned when it’s used. To add new scope rules, follow these steps:
Click the scope from the list of scopes on the View Scopes page.
A drop-down list appears.
Click the Edit Properties and Rules option.
The Scope Properties and Rules page appears.
In the Rules section, click the New Rule link.
The Add Scope Rule page appears.
Select the rule type from the Scope Rule Type section.
Enter the path for Web Address rules or the property for Property Query rules in the Web Address or Property Query section.
In the Behavior section, indicate whether to include, require, or exclude the content by selecting the proper radio button.
The rule appears.
You can click the New Rule link to add as many rules as necessary to properly limit the scope.
