BlackBerry PlayBook Storage & Sharing Options

If you’re looking for some of the reasons the BlackBerry PlayBook is attractive to corporate and enterprise IT managers — the keepers of company secrets — you’ll find some of the answers in the Storage & Sharing principal controls.

  • USB Connections instructs the tablet how to react when it detects a wired connection over a USB cable. The default setting is Automatically Detect. If, however, you have both a Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac system, you can tell the PlayBook to recognize only one or the other.

  • Network Identification allows you to personalize the tablet network name, workgroup, and username. If you don’t enter identification of your own, the PlayBook will cleverly call itself PLAYBOOK-XXXX, with the last four digits coming from the PIN that’s assigned at the factory.

  • File Sharing is one of the important security features of the systems. Turned on, you are permitting access to and sharing of files and media stored in your PlayBook anytime it is connected by USB cable to your computer.

  • WiFi Sharing permits movement of files over a wireless network.

  • Password Protect lets you require a password before files can be moved to or from the tablet. If you decide you want to change the password, there is a button for that; you have to enter the original password before you can change anything. If you forget the password, the only solution is to reset the system to factory defaults.
