Basics of the Security Lock Screens for the Nexus 7 Tablet
You can secure your Nexus 7 tablet from access by evildoers in a number of ways. The first method of protection is to employ a lock screen, specifically one better than the standard sliding lock that the Nexus 7 uses.
How to find the lock screen settings
Lock screen security is set on the Choose Screen Lock screen. Here’s how to get there:
At the Home screen, touch the All Apps icon.
Open the Settings app.
Choose the Security category.
Choose Screen Lock.
If a security type of screen lock is already set, you must trace the pattern or type the PIN or password to continue.
The Choose Lock Screen window lists six types of lock settings:
None: The screen doesn’t lock. Even the Unlock-icon-and-locking-ring thingy doesn’t show up. Choosing this option disables all locks.
Slide: The Nexus 7 simply uses the standard locking screen: Slide the Unlock icon to the unlocking ring.
Face Unlock: Use the front camera on the Nexus 7 to use your adorable face as the unlocking mechanism.
Pattern: To unlock the tablet, you must trace a pattern on the touchscreen.
PIN: The Nexus 7 is unlocked by typing a personal identification number (PIN).
Password: You must type a password to unlock the Nexus 7.
How to remove the screen lock from your Nexus 7 tablet
You use the Choose Lock Screen window to not only place a lock on your tablet but also remove any existing locks.
After visiting the Choose Lock Screen window, you can choose the None option to remove all screen locks. Or to restore the original screen lock, choose the Slide option.
