Apple Partners with PowerON for iPhone 4S Recycling

Apple has made it easy to be environmentally conscious with its Reuse and Recyling program. The week of August 27, 2012 Apple updated its device recycling program and will now accept the iPhone 4S. But wait, there’s more, they will offer up to $345 for the 64-gigabyte, top-of-the-line model.

Apple partnered with PowerON, a third-party company who is operating Apple’s reuse program. The buyback program includes old iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The company provides the customer with an Apple gift card that is equivalent to the fair market value of the traded device. PowerON determines the fair market value.

Estimated values for the iPhone 4S trade can be found at Apple’s Reuse and Recycling website. For example, those customers with a lightly used black iPhone 4S in good working condition can expect to receive about a $280 gift card for the handset.

Apple is expected to launch its next handset, which is the successor to the iPhone 4S, in September 2012.

All gift cards for Apple trade can be used at any U.S. Apple retail store or can be redeemed through the Apple online store. Should a customer choose to recycle a phone and not receive any monetary value — although the gift card is sweet — the device is recycled at no cost to the user.

The Reuse and Recycling Program is not limited to just iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Apple also accepts trade ins of Windows-based desktops and laptops in their Reuse and Recycling program. Older PC are recycled at no cost, and some new computers are eligible to receive an Apple gift card, which is also provided by PowerON.

Any quotes online are simply estimates for you to determine what your device might bring when you choose to recycle. After you send your device to PowerON, they will determine the actual value.
