Algebra Glossary: N

natural numbers; counting numbers: Values starting with 1 and increasing by 1.

negative number: Any quantity that is less than zero; usually preceded by a minus sign.

negative reciprocals: Two numbers, one positive and one negative, whose product is negative one.

nested: When two or more grouping symbols are inside one another, such as {32[4 × 2(2 + 5)]}.

number system: A set of numbers.

numerator: The top number in a fraction.
