Add Scene Selection Menus to an iLife '11 iDVD Project
7 of 8 in Series: The Essentials of Customizing an iLife '11 iDVD Project
When you play a commercial DVD, the main menu usually offers a button to show a scene selection submenu that lets you choose a scene to start watching from. No matter how long your videos are, you can add chapter markers to them to mark their scenes. You can then use iDVD in iLife '11 to create scene selection menus.
If you add chapter markers to your iMovie video project and then add the video to an iDVD project, iDVD creates one or more scene selection submenus (depending on how many chapters you have marked in the video) to enable viewers to select individual scenes.
You can also add rudimentary chapter markers in iDVD. Follow these steps:
Select the menu button for the video in the Viewer, and choose Advanced→Create Chapter Markers for Movie.
Set the number of minutes in the video between chapter markers and click OK.Create markers for every five minutes of video.
After creating chapter markers for a video, or after you add a video that's already chapter-marked, iDVD automatically creates scene selection submenus for the video:
If the main menu or submenu you're adding the video to has no buttons, iDVD puts two buttons on the menu: one to play the entire video and a Scene Selection button that links to the first scene selection submenu.
If the main menu or submenu already has one or more buttons, or if you already added the video to the project, iDVD instead links the existing button to a submenu that offers the Play button to play the entire video and a Scene Selection button that links to the first scene selection submenu.
Each scene selection submenu has a Back button to return to the previous menu and a Forward button if your submenu needs to offer more than the limit of 6 selections (or 12, in certain themes).
