Add a Browser Shortcut to Your BlackBerry PlayBook

Is there a web page that’s so important to your lifestyle and business that you need it one finger tap away from the home page on your BlackBerry PlayBook? Things like the Boston Red Sox season stats, your life’s savings in an investment account, or an online shopping site with fabulous prices on electronic items you didn’t even know you absolutely needed?

From the home page you can add a shortcut to a site on the Internet. You don’t need to open the browser, select a favorite, or (can you imagine?) tap away at the virtual keyboard.

Creating a desktop browser shortcut is as simple as this:

  1. Open the browser.

  2. Go to the site for which you want almost-instant access.

You’ll have to be connected to the Internet by WiFi, Bluetooth, or cellular link, of course.

  3. With the page displayed, tap the Add to Bookmarks icon.

  4. Tap Add to Home Screen.

The shortcut will appear on the home screen.

You can move it to a place of honor, or hide it in the secondary group of apps by pressing and holding it until all of the icons jiggle onscreen; touch and hold the icon and move it to a new location on screen. Tap the checkmark to stop the jiggling and lock icons where they are. You can delete shortcuts by following the same initial steps: press and hold on an icon and then tap the garbage can that appears. Tap the checkmark to stop the jiggling.
