You can organize e-mail on iPad 2 by moving messages into particular folders and deleting the e-mails you no longer need. With the tons of e-mail you probably receive every day, you'll find it best to stay on top of it by organizing and deleting messages as needed.

The number of folders in each of your Inboxes varies by e-mail provider. Some providers allow you to set up extra folders (or labels, as Gmail calls them) as needed, while others provide only the standard Inbox, Drafts, Sent, and Trash folders.

Move iPad e-mail messages

You might want to move messages from folder to folder (iPad refers to these as "mailboxes") in order to organize them into logical groups so they are easier to locate and deal with.

  1. After displaying the folder containing the message you want to move (for example, Trash or Inbox), tap the Edit button.

Circular check boxes are displayed to the left of each message.

  2. Tap the circle next to the message you want to move.

The circle displays a checkmark to show that the message is selected. You can tap multiple items if you have several e-mails to move.

  3. Tap the Move button.

    A list of mailboxes appears.

  4. Tap the folder where you want to store the message.

If you receive a junk e-mail, you might want to move it to the Spam or Junk folder if your e-mail account provides one. Then any future mail from the same sender is automatically placed in the Spam or Junk folder. In any case, after you select a folder, the message is moved into it.

If you have an e-mail open, you can move it to a folder by tapping the Folder icon on the toolbar along the top. The Mailboxes list displays; tap a folder to move the message.

Delete iPad e-mail messages

When you no longer want an e-mail cluttering your Inbox, you can delete it.

  1. With the Inbox displayed, tap the Edit button.

Circular check boxes are displayed to the left of each message.

  2. Tap the circle next to the message you want to delete.

You can tap multiple items if you have several e-mails to delete. A message marked for deletion shows a check mark in the circular check box.

  3. Tap the Delete button at the bottom of the Inbox dialog.

The message is moved to the Trash folder.

You can also delete an open e-mail by tapping the trashcan icon on the toolbar that runs across the top of Mail.
