For Seniors: Add the Puzzle Gadget to the Windows Desktop
With the Puzzle gadget on your Windows desktop, you can play a quick game and relieve mental stress. The Puzzle gadget displays a mixed-up picture; your job is to put it right again. You can even time yourself and try for better scores each time.
A gadget, by the way, is a small applet that fills a specific function, such as displaying a picture puzzle for you to solve. You can arrange multiple gadgets on the desktop by repeating these steps.
1Right-click the desktop and choose Gadgets.
The Gadget Gallery appears.
2Click the Puzzle gadget and drag it to the desktop.
The Puzzle gadget appears on the desktop where you dropped it, displaying the first puzzle.
3To play the game, click any piece adjacent to a blank square.
The piece moves into the blank space. Keep clicking and moving pieces until you get the pieces arranged to form a picture.
4Click the tools along the top of the puzzle to pause the timer, display the completed picture as a hint, or end the game.
Click the Pause Timer button to stop the automatic count of seconds of play. Click the Show Picture button to temporarily display the completed picture as a hint; release the button, and you go back to where you were in the game. Click the Solve button to end the game and display the completed picture.
5To change to a different picture, place your mouse over the Puzzle gadget and click the Options button.
When you move your mouse over the gadget, a panel flies out; click the Options button on this panel. (It sports a little wrench symbol.) The Picture Puzzle dialog box appears.
6Click the Next or Previous buttons to move through the available pictures.
Pictures are displayed one by one. Stop when you find a picture you want to solve.
The Puzzle settings are saved.
To remove a gadget from your desktop, just place your pointer over it and then click the Close button (marked with an X) that appears next to it. The gadget closes. Follow the steps above to display it on the desktop again at any time.
