How to Set Cover Sheet Notification Types on Your iPhone

By Dwight Spivey

Cover Sheet is a list of various alerts and scheduled events on your iPhone; it even provides information (such as stock quotes) that you can display by swiping down from the top of your iPhone screen. Cover Sheet is on by default, but you don’t have to include every type of notification there if you don’t want to; for example, you may never want to be notified of incoming messages but always want to have reminders listed here — it’s up to you. Some Cover Sheet settings let you control what types of notifications are included:

  1. Tap Settings, then tap Notifications.
  2. In the settings that appear, you see a list of items to be included in Cover Sheet.

You can view the state of an item by reading it directly under the item’s name. For example, under Accuweather, you read “Badges, Sounds, Banners,” indicating the methods of notifications that are enabled for that app.

  3. Tap any item. In the settings that appear, set an item’s Allow Notifications switch to On or Off, to include or exclude it from Cover Sheet.

  4. Tap an Alert Style to choose to have no alert, view a banner across the top of the screen, or have a boxed alert appear.

If you enable Banners, it will appear, then disappear automatically if you tap the Temporary style. If you choose Persistent, you have to take an action to dismiss the alert when it appears (such as swiping it up to dismiss it or tapping to view it).

  5. If you want to be able to view alerts when the lock screen is displayed, turn on the Show on Cover Sheet setting.
  6. Tap Notifications in the upper-left corner to return to the main Notifications settings screen.

When you’ve finished making settings, press the Home button.

You can drag across or tap an alert displayed in Cover Sheet to go to its source, such as the Reminders app, to see more details about it.
