How to Uninstall a Desktop Program on Your Windows 8 Tablet
You can remove desktop programs, as well as apps, directly from the Start screen on your Windows 8 tablet. Unlike apps, though, desktop programs require you to jump through a few extra hoops.
To uninstall a desktop program from your tablet, follow these steps:
From the Start screen, select your desktop program’s app and choose Uninstall from the App bar.
Don’t see your program’s tile on the Start screen? Then move to Step 2.
If you do see your desktop program on the Start screen, though, then select the program by sliding its tile slightly up or down. Then tap the Uninstall icon from the App bar along the screen’s bottom edge. When the desktop’s Control Panel opens to show its Uninstall or Change a Program window, skip ahead to Step 3.
Not every desktop program appears on the Start screen. If yours doesn’t, visit the Uninstall or Change a Program window manually:
From the Start screen, tap the Desktop tile.
Then slide your finger in from the screen’s right edge to fetch the Charms bar; then tap Settings icon. When the Settings pane appears, tap Control Panel from the pane’s top.
When the Control Panel appears, tap Uninstall a Program from the Programs section, and the Uninstall or Change a Program window appears.
Tap the name of the program you want to uninstall; then tap the Uninstall button above it.
When asked if you want to remove the program, tap the Yes button.
Windows removes the program from your computer. If you’ve created files with that program, those files stay on your computer. However, unless your tablet has another app or program that knows how to open those files, you may not be able to access them.
