How to Create a New GarageBand Project in iLife ’11
GarageBand in iLife ’11 gives you the opportunity to start something new, and exciting! But first, you need to tackle the basics. When you first open GarageBand in iLife, you see a dialog in which you create a new project, open a recent project, open a song, or do other tasks. To start a new project in GarageBand, follow these steps:
Click New Project.Click New Project and then choose an instrument to start with.
Choose an instrument track to start with or a project type.
For example, if you choose Piano, the project starts with a Grand Piano track; for Guitar, the project starts with a guitar track. (If you choose Podcast, the project starts with a set of podcast tracks.)
It doesn’t matter which instrument you start with, you can create more tracks for other instruments, delete tracks from within your project, or even change the instrument for a track.
After you choose an instrument track for your new project, the New Project from Template dialog appears with these default settings:
Time signature: 4/4
Tempo: 120 beats per minute (bpm)
Key signature: CSetting the time, tempo, and key settings.
Choose settings for your song.
The default settings are typical for popular songs, so you might want to start with them. You have to set these parameters before adding loops or recording instruments, so your loops and recordings can fit together and play at the same speed, using the same range of notes.
You can always change a song’s parameters later, and all recordings and loops with Software Instruments change automatically to reflect the new settings; however, Real Instrument loops and recordings don’t change, so you should set those parameters before recording a live instrument.
