How to Draw Spring Jackets
Draw a women’s lightweight hiking jacket.
Draw a front female pose with one arm bent and on the waist. Follow the sides of the trapezoids that make up her torso for the sides of the jacket. Add an oval around the neck and another above the shoulder for the hood. Include the center front line for the zipper.
Add lines on both sides of the arms for sleeves. For a fun design shape, draw curved lines that start below the armholes and angle up to the neckline. Add dashed lines next to those seam lines for topstitching.
Finish the design with pockets at your model’s waistline and a stripe down the side of each arm.
Draw a men’s lightweight jacket.
Sketch a male front pose with both arms bent. One hand will rest in the jacket’s center front pocket, and the other will be hidden behind the back.
Draw the center front zipper and the collar. Start the zipper a few inches below the chin. For the collar, draw a V at the top of the zipper. Keep one side of the collar straight up and wrap a curved line around the back of the neck. Add a tiny circle beneath this collar for the drawstring hole. Draw a sideways triangle on the other side to show that that side of the collar is open.
Add curved lines at the shoulder and neck to show the hood in the back. Draw side seams in a boxy shape down the sides of the torso to the hips. Add boxy sleeves with little creases at the bend in the arm.
Finish with details such as a center front pocket, two zipper pockets on the chest, a drawstring near the neck, and a seam across the chest. Don’t forget to add topstitching!
Draw a raincoat.
Sketch a female side pose. Draw the sleeve. Using the arm hanging straight down as the center of the sleeve, draw a sleeve that starts out narrow at the armholes and bells out at the wrist. Add some stripes for a fun design, leaving a little white in the stripe to indicate the shine of the waterproof material. Sketch in a hat.
Follow the side profile of your model’s chest above the breast, drawing a line that falls down from the point of the chest to her stomach and comes a little forward into a bell shape at her knees. Draw the back line of her coat peeking out from behind her arm. Draw a line for the hem to connect the front and back.
Add a seam at the waistline and draw a line down her side for the side seam. Draw a couple of short lines at the model’s hip to show the side-seam pocket. Add boots and draw your model’s hair blowing in the wind.
Feel free to add a ruffle at the hem and a bold print throughout the coat. Don’t forget to include white areas for shine!
