Things You Should Know About the iPhone

by Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus
author of 48 books, including Mac OS X Tiger For Dummies

What will it take to make you the proud owner of Apple's sizzlin' hot iPhone? Here are some prerequisites to your purchase (including the amount of change you'll have to shake loose from your piggybank).

  • Wireless service in the United States will be provided exclusively by Cingular (aka AT&T).
  • The iPhone includes support for quad-band GSM, EDGE, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR wireless technologies.
  • Internet access is required and a broadband connection is recommended.
  • 4GB model: $499.
  • 8GB model: $599.
  • Both models will be sold in the US through Apple and Cingular retail and online stores.

You'll also need either:

  • A Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later and iTunes 7.
    or
  • A Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 2).

Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus is working on his 49th book, iPhone For Dummies (with Ed Baig).
