Building Flash Web Sites For Dummies
Use Named Anchors in Flash
Adapted From: Building Flash Web Sites For Dummies

To cater to people in love with their browsers' Back buttons in Flash, you add named anchors. A named anchor is like a frame label on steroids; modern Web browser Back and Next buttons link to them like white on rice. You create a named anchor, as follows:

  1. Select the keyframe in which you want to add the named anchor.

  2. Choose Window, Properties. The Properties Inspector opens.

  3. Type a name in the "instance name" field. For safety's sake, type a name that does not contain spaces. Your movie will be viewed by a wide variety of browsers, as well as being viewed cross-platform, and not all browsers and operating systems recognize spaces in filenames and tags.

  4. Choose Anchor from the Type drop-down menu.

When the movie is published and it advances to the keyframe after the one on which you've added a named anchor, the user's browser's Back button can be used to navigate to the keyframe with the named anchor.
