Have you always wanted to witness a total solar eclipse? Plan your trip! Here are the dates and locations of the next seven projected:
- Mar. 29, 2006: Eastern Brazil across the Atlantic to Ghana, across Africa to Libya, across the Mediterranean Sea to Turkey, across the Black Sea to Georgia and Kazakhstan
- Aug. 1, 2008: Northern Canada, Greenland, Arctic Ocean, Russia, Mongolia, to China
- July 22, 2009: India, Nepal, Bhutan, China, and across the China Sea and the central Pacific
- July 11, 2010: Across the south Pacific and Easter Island to southern Chile and Argentina
- Nov. 13, 2012: Australia and across the south Pacific toward (but not reaching) Chile
- Nov. 3, 2013: Across the Atlantic to Africa, from Gabon to Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia
- Mar. 20, 2015: Across the north Atlantic south of Greenland to the Faeroe Islands, Norwegian Sea, Spitsbergen Island, and on almost to the North Pole
A few years before each eclipse, articles with information on the weather prospects and logistics for viewing from various locations begin to appear in astronomy magazines. Check the Sky & Telescope and Astronomy magazines. Look for eclipse tour advertisements in the magazines and on the Web. Check out the most reliable eclipse predictions on the NASA eclipse site.
