Science fiction fans, pack your bags! The world's first museum dedicated to the genre of science fiction is now open in Seattle, Washington. According to their official Web site, "The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame combines artifacts and information in evocative environments that immerse visitors in science fiction's 'alternative worlds.'"
Reportedly on display are Captain Kirk's chair from the Star Trek series, the first edition of H.G. Well's Time Machine, and many more artifacts from beloved sci-fi books, movies, and television series. Visitors will even get the chance to get up close and personal with a 19-foot-long model of the Alien queen from the movie Alien.
The Science Fiction Museum is housed inside a wing of the Experience Music Project, a Jimi Hendrix-inspired rock museum in a very cool-looking building with an exterior that pulses in red, blue, gold, purple and silver.
Major funding for this one-of-a-kind museum came from Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen who is said to have donated $20 million to the project.
