Prose Pruning
Adapted From: Research Papers For Dummies

Slim down your writing by deleting unnecessary words. For example, the commonly used phrase "owing to the fact that" can be replaced with "because" or "since." Likewise, the phrase "on a daily basis" can usually be replaced with "daily." Generally, read your sentences for words and phrases that are unnecessary or overly common. Delete, condense, and tighten your prose.
