Picking a Format for Your Song Demo
Adapted From: Songwriting For Dummies

The compact disc (CD) is rapidly becoming the format of choice for song demos. In the past, song demos were always presented on cassette tape, but thankfully — because they sometimes run at the wrong speeds, the quality is poor, occasional dropouts can be heard — cassette tape demos are soon to be a thing of the past. By using a CD, you can get away with having more songs on one demo presentation — because if the person you're sending it to doesn't like one song, he or she can just quickly skip to the next one.

New technology has enabled the equipment that creates CDs from your master tracks to become more and more affordable. This equipment is often built right into home computers and laptops. But don't donate your cassette deck to charity just yet — submission policies of some companies still specify cassettes, so always check before you submit your demo.
