Have Camera, Will Travel
Adapted From: Great Digital Media with Windows XP

Take some advice it from a photographer who's spent over a year traveling with a digital camera.

  • Always carry spare batteries. There's nothing more frustrating than missing an important shot because your batteries are dead, so be sure to bring spares.
  • Try a disc reader for photo transfer. Companies (such as ScanDisk) sell inexpensive USB-based readers that you can attach to your computer so you can plug in a memory card and transfer photos without draining the batteries in the camera.
  • Bring a laptop on your trip if you've got the room. You can use it to download images off the camera's memory card each day, dramatically increasing your photo storage capacity. (Besides, you want to bring your entire digital music collection with you while you're on the road, right?
