The Analytical Writing Assessment section of the GMAT CAT requires you to write two prose responses with a time limit of 30 minutes for each. You will receive two types of questions: (1) an analysis of an issue, which presents an issue you must discuss, and (2) an analysis of an argument, which presents an argument you must analyze.
Because the GMAT is now computerized, you will enter your response to each of the analytical writing questions into the computer through a very simple word-processing system. Prior to starting the test, a tutorial will carefully walk you through using the word processor. This word processing program includes the basic typing keyboard functions including Cut, Paste, and Undo. It also includes the Home, End, Backspace, Delete, Page Up, Page Down, and Enter keys. The program does not allow you to use tabs, however.
You receive the equivalent of three pages to type each response, as well as scratch paper for prewriting, outlining, notes, and so forth. The prompt (question) for each type of response appears at the top of the page, and you type your response in the writing box below.
