Ergonomic Tricks and Tips
Adapted From: Macworld Mac Secrets, 6th Edition

Heads up to anyone who's suffered from sore arms, fingers, and neck while working at a computer! Here are two useful tidbits.

  • Don't put your monitor in front of a window. It turns out that if bright light is coming in from behind your monitor, your pupils contract, adjusting to the light. Trouble is, what you're typing is on the screen, which is relatively dim. The result, by the end of the day, is burning, painful eyestrain. Put your monitor at right angles to the light source instead, and you'll be much happier.
  • Spend money on your chair. If you work in an office that's already sprung for a nice, ergonomic, full-back-support chair, no problem. But otherwise, heed this advice for your short-, medium-, and long-term comfort. A really decent, well-designed desk chair costs $300 or more. And they're worth it.
